Character Design:
Fable Chocolates

Fable Chocolates, a premium chocolate brand based in Kuwait, wanted to expand its lineup of illustrated characters that represent each of its chocolate flavors. The brand sought distinct, personality-rich designs with a strong Kuwaiti flair to stand apart from generic chocolate branding.

the challenge

Fable Chocolates needed four original characters that would not only represent different chocolate flavors, but also carry distinct personalities and individuality. Each design had to feel authentic, visually compelling, and infused with a strong Kuwaiti cultural identity.

Another key requirement was that the creative process be collaborative, with the client included at every stage to ensure the characters reflected their vision. Ultimately, the challenge was to deliver designs that combined character depth, cultural relevance, and professional execution—bringing Fable Chocolates’ brand to life in a fresh and meaningful way.

the approach

From the very first meeting, I made sure to address the client’s concerns directly. My approach emphasized:

  • Listening actively and taking detailed notes.

  • Collaboration at every stage, ensuring the client’s voice was central.

  • Creative enthusiasm, offering suggestions and showing genuine excitement for the project.

To design the characters:

  1. Flavor Research – I researched and tasted the assigned chocolate flavors to inspire unique personalities for each evil character.

  2. Sketching & Exploration – Dozens of sketches were created to give the client multiple options for each flavor.

  3. Client Collaboration – In our second meeting, the client immediately connected with the selected designs and expressed excitement.

  4. Refinement – I developed additional poses, facial expressions, and explored different color schemes for each character.

  5. Final Delivery – Four fully illustrated characters were delivered, each with two poses and corresponding background illustrations.

the outcome

The final result was a cohesive group of four unique characters, each distinct in design, personality, and cultural identity. The client was extremely happy with the outcome, noting that:

  • The characters captured the Kuwaiti essence they had been seeking.

  • Each design felt original, memorable, and aligned with the brand.

  • The collaborative process gave them confidence and satisfaction, unlike their past experience with other studios.

conclusion

This project demonstrated the power of listening, cultural understanding, and creative collaboration. Fable Chocolates now has four original evil-themed characters that enrich their chocolate lineup and strengthen their brand identity.
